625 Loft White Down Pillow This malleable, soft, and luxurious pillow is filled with care in Canada. The shell is 360 thread count cotton, which is a great balance of softness and durability. Summer Weight works well for room temperatures around 22 degrees C and above or if you’re fairly hot when you sleep. This is a lighter, thinner-style duvet. Because of down’s excellent insulating properties, we don’t require much fill to achieve this warmth level. However, you'll find this duvet contains more fill than a duvet with higher loft down and less fill than one with lower loft down. The higher the loft, the higher the performance, and the less down is needed to achieve the desired warmth! Construction The shell features 4 corner loops and baffle box construction. Fill is evenly distributed across the boxes. Each box has inner vertical baffle walls, creating a 3-dimensional container, which allows the down to loft up to its full potential. It consists of clusters of light, fluffy filaments growing from a central quill point. Warmth Level & Weight Summer Weight: It’s a light, not-so-warm duvet, perfect for sleeping in warmer temperatures. This is a duck down duvet! What’s the difference between goose down and duck down? There is no difference in the overall look and feel of the fill (unless you’re using a microscope)! There are 4 main, but subtle differences: Loft: Down quality is measured by loft (AKA fill power). Goose down tends to be available in higher lofts than duck down, however, you can find both duck and goose down in low and high lofts.Odour: Lower loft duck down has a higher likelihood of developing an odour in humid environments than goose down or higher loft duck down. However, odour is quite rare, especially with down which has been thoroughly cleaned.Longevity: Duck down naturally contains more oils than goose down, which can help prevent the material from becoming dry and brittle.Cost: Goose down is scarcer and more expensive, and therefore, more expensive than duck down. Loft Loft (AKA fill power) is the measure of the fluffiness of down – specifically, how many cubic inches 1 ounce of down will fill. Higher loft down is fluffier, warmer per ounce (higher performance) and better overall quality. Good quality down products start at 550 loft and may be as high as 1000 loft. The higher the loft, the less fill is needed to achieve the desired warmth. This is why higher loft duvets are lighter than lower loft duvets, which require more fill to create equivalent warmth. It is important to note that the warmth of a duvet is not determined by loft alone – it is also determined by fill weight. Higher loft down products are not necessarily warmer than lower loft product. Both low and high loft material can be used to create products of various warmth levels by adjusting the fill weight.
